With the holiday season rapidly approaching, you should remember to get stocked up on everybody's favorite holiday treat: liquor.

I replenished my wine stock last weekend...

And I always have a variety of juice on hand. You never know what people are going to want to wash down the holiday cheer with! (You don't have to have a lot, just a good variety.)

Food on Friday

Single and I work together at The Factory. Every Friday, someone brings in food for the whole department to enjoy. I usually enjoy it as much as I can. This was Single's contribution:

We ate the spaghetti finally...

It's always nice to let is sit awhile. That way the wine and the spices can settle into place. I actually prefer to eat a marinara sauce a couple of days after it is made. I have also found that you have to salt it less when you wait.

Mother provided the salad.

I got the bread at our local Dominick's grocery store. Not a lot of people realize that they do have a decent bakery. The bread we had that night have whole cloves of garlic and cracked pepper corns in it. Nice...

It seemed to be missing something so I went to the pantry...

Catch of the Day

In this case, the catch of the day would be catching up with what I have spent the past week eating!

Mother made this baked fish in tomato sauce and Sister's strawberry bacon wilted salad. Steamed vegetables rounded out the meal. It is nice to work all day and not have to make yourself dinner. Thanks!

So, last night we went to see Single's new house. Very nice! I especially liked the flight pattern she now lives under... She served Warsteiner and a light appetizer:

On the way back to Edgewater, I caught a glimpse of this very intriguing sign:

Makes you wonder just how big those tacos are, doesn't it. If I try them out, you'll be the first to know...

Anyway, by the time Alex and I got home, we were starving and there was nothing for it but to order... That's right, Fried Chili Heaven. Now, it's not on their to-go menu so I asked if it was available... Boy, was it ever:

Weekend Eats

I have to go to a friend's house Friday for drinks. So, I don't think I'll be eating out that night, but I am hoping to get back to one of my favorite neighborhood haunts sometime this weekend. Indie Cafe is a Japanese-Thai place just north of Thorndale on Broadway. (That'd be the Thorndale stop on the Red Line.)

Last time I was there I had the Fried Chili Heaven and they weren't kidding! I recommend it if you like chilies and a little sweet. My god, I was in...

Oh yah, that's tilapia (wrangled by an onion ring) in there with the chilies.

If you go for a taste, make sure you take your own booze. With the FCH, I recommend beer but a white wine will do.

Spaghetti 101

This was the first thing I learned how to make without being supervised. I was in college...

(Don't throw away "old" peppers. Clean, cut, bag, and freeze. They are great for sauces and very convenient to have when you are in a hurry or when you are too drunk to find the cutting board...)

Serve with bread, salad, and wine...

(Yes, this is the same wine I used in the sauce. Try putting it in when you are softening up the garlic and onion but before you put in the sausage. And, yes, it was Halloween.)

Up North Eat-a-thon

It's a good thing that (almost) all of us can still digest our food...

After unloading, we began eating...

Arnie to the rescue with BBQ from Hickory Rivers! Their hot BBQ sauce was a sneaker, especially since we mixed it up with the regular...

There was potato salad too. Alex, Butch and Arnie thought it must have turkey in it. Will wonders never cease?

I put the potato salad at the bottom of my sandwich. That's what I call fusion.

Yes, yes, that's a little jagermeister. It was for medicinal purposes, you know, the digestion...

Up North

No posts for a while! Alex and I are headed up north with our friends Dexter, Mort, Arnie, and Butch for a "color tour". What that actually means is a long weekend playing rummy and yahtzee, drinking White Lakes, and eating like pigs. Pictures to follow...

After a fruitless hour and a half getting my car emissions tested, I came home to find Alex all set to make Caribbean pork and roasted sweet potato fries. What a gem that man is. Combined with a beer, that's enough to turn my otherwise wasted day around.

Also of note on this blustery Tuesday, the new National Geographic came. On page 114 there is a story about a town in Louisiana where the natives enjoy turducken. Turducken is a turkey stuffed with a duck stuffed with a chicken... Which just goes to show you that the good people of Maurice, Louisiana are pretty much like the rest of us: always looking for a good time.
